inThe day came for Freya to move into her new home. Her new owner arrived with a friend to pick her up. I wondered how Freya would react. She reacted beautifully! She welcomed them in the hallway and rubbed her face around their hands in greeting. After a while, she laid down on the floor, rolled over and invitingly showed them her fluffy tummy! It was a real invitation to bond with her! Once the paperwork was completed, it was time for Freya to go into the cat basket. She was a little unwilling as it was a different one to the one in which she’d been taken to the vets’ and homing day. However, on the second attempt, we got her in, taking great care not to trap her impressive fluffy tail.
It’s been lovely to see Freya blossom while she’s been here. When she arrived she was quite thin following the birth of her kittens and being spayed. But she’s filled out and is a fighting fit confident, sociable young lady who I’m sure will be a great companion for years to come.
So Freya has now settled in her new home and I have a day where I can clean up and open the windows and doors wide to let the fresh air in. Tomorrow, it all starts again with the arrival of foster cat no. 12. I’m looking forward to meeting her.

inFreya remains settled and has decided that she loves reclining in the hallway rather in the living room. I don’t know whether that’s because she finds it cooler in the hot weather we are currently experiencing, or because it’s near to the door and she’s planning her escape! Probably a bit of both. In the past few days, the locked cat flap has come in for a bit of a walloping as Freya is making it clear that she’s ready to explore the outside world. Unfortunately, foster cats aren’t allowed outside for safety and security reasons, but obviously, Freya cannot understand that. So to lessen her frustration, I’ve covered the cat flap with a piece of card. She has had one go at trying to get through it but seems to have realised that it’s no-go and is now happily playing with her toys.
Freya is more than ready to go to a permanent home where, once settled, she will be allowed outside. A Peterborough Cat Rescue homing day yesterday at a local vets’ brought in a number of people looking for kittens, so the adult cats were rather overlooked. Then, about half an hour before we were due to close, a man walked in saying he didn’t want a kitten, but a cat – about two years old, who would be OK left alone during the day whilst he was at work. We introduced him to Freya and it was love at first sight. He stroked her and held her for a while and decided that she was the one for him. Freya seemed to like him too. The irony is, I recognised him as soon as he walked through the door as someone who works for another organisation I volunteer for!! So not only is Freya going to a suitable new home, her new parent is someone I already know!
I’ve just a couple more days looking after Freya while her new owner stocks up on the essentials he needs for her, then they will start their new life together. That’s what makes cat fostering so rewarding!

inFor some reason the post I wrote last week has completely disappeared! Only the title remains! So I can’t remember what I wrote last week! If you still have a copy, or can remember, please forgive me if I repeat myself this time.
Freya has been with me almost a week. She is a friendly and confident young lady who settled in incredibly quickly. She loves fuss and attention and enjoys having her long fur groomed. However, she draws the line at sitting on one’s lap! She’ll happily share the sofa with me, but will not curl up on my lap. Not yet, anyway!
Even on the first day, she was playful. This has continued as she creates a game with anything she finds. This includes small pieces of wood-based cat litter that have escaped from the litter tray. Speaking of the litter tray, it’s been necessary to produce the large one. This is because Freya is very long-bodied and she frequently…er….overshot the runway, so to speak. We have more success with the larger tray, but not 100% I’m afraid!
Freya had an outing to the vet yesterday for her second vaccination. She can be a little feisty when being asked to do something she does not want to do, such as when encouraging her to go into the lounge for the night, she smacked my ankle with a soft paw as she passed by. So it was with some trepidation that I produced the cat basket for our journey to the vet. I needn’t have worried. Freya went into the basket with no fuss at all and even seemed to enjoy the ride in the car! She was just as calm at the vets; her examination and injection passed by with no fuss at all. She was passed fit and has even gained a little weight following the birth of her kittens a few weeks ago.
Freya is ready for rehoming so if you could give this lovely, sociable young lady a home please contact Peterborough Cat Rescue on 07502 134006.

inI’ve recently returned from a few days away. While I was away, Molly went to stay with Daphne to be looked after there. During that time, a couple expressed an interest in Molly. They had just been devastated by the loss of their cat in a road accident and really missed having some feline company. Molly was due her second vaccination on my return, so with the prospect of a new home in the offing, on Thursday I met Daphne and Molly at the vets and reunited them with Molly’s paperwork. It was lovely to see Molly again. She looked well and relaxed in her cat basket as we went through the doors. Surprisingly, she remained that way through the entire procedure! In the waiting room, she “chatted” a bit as we became reacquainted. Even when the basket was placed on the vet’s table she continued to appear nonchalant. Even more impressive was that she didn’t emit a single flinch as the injection was administered! For a timid, nervous cat she did exceptionally well! Maybe at last she is finally gaining some confidence.
We said our goodbyes and Molly went home with Daphne to await news of her potential new home. Molly was viewed today and will move in to her new home on Monday. I wish Molly and her new owners a long and happy life together.
